Micah Altman's Software Packages
These are links to software packages that I developed and maintain.
- accuracy (for Windows, MacOS and Linux, available from: CRAN, and
CSAN) An R module for accurate computing, including:
Summarization of the sensitivity of linear
and non-linear models (lm, glm, mle, nls) to
measurement and numerical error; A generalized cholesky method for
correcting non-invertable Hessians; Tests for
the global optimality of non-linear regression and maximum likelihood results;
Tools for obtaining true random numbers using entropy collected from the system
and/or entropy servers on the internet;
A method for converting floating point numbers to normalized fractions;
Benchmark data for checking the accuracy of basic distribution functions.
- BARD (for Windows, MacOS and Linux, available from CRAN): Better automated redistricting.
- urn (for Windows, MacOS and Linux, available from: CRAN and CSAN) ) : A R module for repeated sampling without replacement. (A simulated urn.)
- UNF
(for Windows, MacOS and Linux, available from: CRAN (contains R, Stata, SAS, and standalone) and CSAN (SPLUS)
Stata plugin, SAS routine, standalone executable (use with SPSS, etc.), and sources:
A universal numeric fingerprint is used to guarantee that a
defined subset of data is substantively identical to a comparison
subset. Two fingerprints will match if and only if the subset of
data generating them are identical, when represented using a given
number of significant digits.( Currently available as a C++ library, standalone executable, Stata plugin and R module.)

- VDC (Virtual Data Center) (Replaced by the "Dataverse Network") (Download): An operational, open-source, digital library to enable the sharing of quantitative research data, and the development of distributed virtual collections of data and documentation. Winner of the American Political Science Association's Best Research Software award. (Learn More)
